Sixmilebridge Minor & Camogie Clubs in association with Morey Movement are delighted to launch
their Winter Athletic Development programme for club members aged 8 – 17(incl) commencing on
the 4th of November 2024. Both clubs play a significant role in support of the health and wellbeing
and physical fitness of young children in the parish and the launch of this programme will further
enhance this.
In 2024, youth athletic development is more essential than ever, especially in sports like GAA, where
strength, agility, and endurance are critical. Teenagers today possess different physical attributes
than those 30 years ago, from sedentary lifestyles to early sport specialisation, youth athletic
development can fill in the missing gaps to a young athlete’s life. The main aims of this programme
are:
1. Injury Prevention: Movement-based strength programmes help build a solid foundation in
young athletes, reducing the risk of injuries. Developing proper movement patterns and strength
early on can prevent long-term issues related to overuse or improper technique.
2. Enhanced Performance: Strength and conditioning improve overall athletic performance. By
focusing on agility, coordination, and power, young athletes can reach their full potential, excelling
in skills crucial to GAA, such as speed, balance, and reaction time.
3. Lifelong Fitness Habits: Engaging youth in structured physical development fosters positive,
lifelong habits of fitness and well-being. This encourages them to stay active beyond their teenage
years, promoting long-term physical and mental health.
4. Adaptation to Modern Sports Demands: As sports science evolves, it is crucial to equip
young athletes with the latest training techniques. The competitive nature of modern GAA requires
young players to be at their physical best to meet the demands of faster, more physical games.
This programme will empower our young athletes to grow stronger, safer, and more skilled in their
sporting careers.
ABOUT MOREY MOVEMENT
Morey Movement has been founded by Chloe & Séadna Morey with a new fitness facility
established in Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare
The company is humble in its beginnings. In 2019, through a discussion at a family function, the idea
was borne out of a lack of space which catered for the fitness needs of Sixmilebridge and its
surrounding areas. Chloe and Séadna, both elite athletes, could see a gap in the market for a fitness
service in the area.
Chloe & Séadna have played sport at the highest level and are two super role models for the next
generation of kids who are coming through our club and growing up in our community.
At the recent launch of the programme Chloe Morey summed up the value of this programme:
"Kids nowadays live in a far more sedentary lifestyle where running, movement and flexibility is not
the norm and this has led to a weakness in their core strength, flexibility and in general a poor
running technique. Irrespective of whether a child fulfils their dreams of playing in an All-Ireland
Final or simply wants to be able to run a 5K to stay fit in later life we will aim to ensure each child
who leaves us after completing their programme will have received a foundation in Athletic
development which will benefit them in in all physical activities".
The following were present at the launch & in the photo below:
John O'Meara - Minor Club Chairman, Eileen Donnellan - Camogie Club Chairperson, Underage Players - Zak Phelan, Conor O'Meara, Leah O'Doherty & Róisín Scanlon, and Chloe Morey from Morey Movement.
