1984 was a special year for the GAA as it celebrated its Centenary Year following its foundation in Hayes Hotel back in 1884. Roll on 100 years and the game of Hurling was thriving across club and county and the 'Bridge collected their 4th County Championship that year.
In the previous 3 occasions we had found that we were a match for any club in Munster and in 1984 Captained by Sean Stack, Sixmilebridge beat a star-studded St Finbarr's side from Cork in Páirc Ui Chaoimh in the semi-final before defeating the Limerick champions, Patrickswell who were backboned by the Punch, Bennis and Foley clans, to lift the provincial title for the first time in Sixmilebridges history. The Bridge bowed out in the All-Ireland semi-final stage when going under to Castlegar, with five Connolly brothers in their ranks, in Pearse Stadium Salthill.

Forty years on from that famous 4-10 to 2-6 win in Semple Stadium, the players gathered over the Christmas to relive and reminisce of those halcyon days, meeting up from 5pm on Sunday evening.A nice surprise on the night was Marty Morrissey who dropped in for a Marty Party and  to say hello and reminisce on the era which was around the time he started his own career in match commentating. Syl O'Connor was on hand to MC and interviewed a few players with some great stories about the games including how John Brennan was late for the county final after his private jet from New York was diverted to Dublin Airport and his helicopter down to Ennis saw him arrive just as the team were leaving the dressing room. John (Fletcher) Chaplin spoke about how he was parachuted into the team as a 16 year old playing with his heros and how 1984 was a launching pad for future success in the club.

The panel included Sean Stack, Pat Collins, Jamesy Keogh, Noel O'Gorman, Kieran O'Shea, Martin Corry, Seamus Cusack, Pat Morey, Flan Quilligan, John O'Connell, Jim Fawl, Tommy Morey (RIP), Gerry Meehan, Danny Chaplin, Gerry McInerney, John Brennan, John Chaplin, Brian McNamara, Paddy Meehan, James Mulready (RIP), Eamonn Healy, PJ Fitzpatrick, John Lynch, Brendan Flynn, Pat Chaplin

Three Murrary brothers were part of the management and backroom team - Christy and Stevie were selectors while Marty was the team masseur. Pat Lonergan (RIP) was also a selector along with Tim Crowe who was the team Trainer.
