The winner of todays Minor A Hurling Final will accept the Willie Chaplin Memorial Cup - Willie was a great volunteer in our club and his family continue to be massive supporters of the club with his 4 sons (Danny, John, Christy & David) winning an All Ireland Club in 1996. We remember Willie on this day and look forward to a great game between the Bridge and the Magpies.
Last year at a County Board meeting , Danny Chaplin presented Pat Gavin and Declan Moroney of Bord na nÓg Iomáint with the newly refurbished Willie Chaplin Minor A Hurling Cup.
Willie Chaplin, a Sixmilebridge man from Cappa, was a great club volunteer especially with underage teams. He unfortunately passed away in 1987 in his early forties but left a great legacy and the Clare Minor Championship Cup was named in his honour. His sons and daughters all represented the Bridge in camogie and hurling and indeed with Clare also at all grades and have given many years service to Sixmilebridge GAA hurling and camogie clubs.
