Clare Cup Div 1B, Rd. 1
Sixmilebridge 1-22
Clarecatsle 1-25
Venue - Clarecastle
Referee - Ger Hoey
The Bridge seniors started their Clare Cup campaign with a trip to Clarecastle on Sunday last, with perfect weather and a fantastically presented pitch on hand for the tie.
A lively affair with plenty of intensity for a first round game it probably showed both teams eagerness to get back out on pitches after all the bad weather earlier this year. The Bridge had 7 new young debutants at senior level spread across the team amonsgt some of our more experienced players. On the Clarecastle sideline was Ger Sparrow O'Loughlin and Anthony Daly, whilst John O'Meara was beginning his second term as Bridge manager with his new backroom team featuring Kieran Bermingham of Na Piarshigh, Aidan Quilligan and Tadgh Keogh.
The game was even in the first half with the score line tied at half time at 12 points a piece. Despite a fantastic goal from Paidi Fitzpatrick in the second half, where he ran 3 quarters of the pitch before finishing with a lovely volley to the back of the net, the Bridge found themselves trailing by 3 at the full time whistle.
A good game for the spectators and plenty of game time for the debutants who encouragingly did not look out of place in a game where the Bridge created plenty of chances and could have been won if a few of those had went inside rather than outside the posts.
Next up for the seniors is Feakle, on Friday next, akeep an eye here on Clubzap for fixture details.
