Sixmilebridge 6-19 Parteen 0-17

The Sixmilebridge resurgence since the opening round defeat by the Banner continued in O’Garney Park on Saturday evening, when the home side comfortably accounted for Parteens second string.

On the recently spiked and sanded sod, Sixmilebridge were quick to get into gear. With  some players unavailable due to  bad backs, silage and communions, it provided Mikey Corbett with the opportunity to make three changes in personnel from the previous weeks Tulla game.

Duck Devanney finished the game with 3-2 to his name and has settled well into his number 11 role spear-heading the attack. Inside him, Errol Touhy relived old days with 2-2 of his own. Indeed the attack as a whole played some excellent hurling and top class support play . To score 2-16 against Tulla and 6-19 against Parteen will be very pleasing for Mikey Corbett.

Both Jamie Lyons and Kieran Liddane continued their rich veins of form, having scored from play in all three games so far. Michael O’Halloran was excellent on the wing. Ed Skehan took a week off training to go spreading slurry, but when called upon from the bench he contributed a ground stroke to rifle a shot past the Parteen goalie for a green flag.

Eric Purcell kept his first clean sheet of the campaign, with the cat from Dunamaggin , Mark O’Donovan, lording it on the edge of the square and the gladiator in the corner, Billy Maxwell,  solid as a rock.

After the game the teams communications officer, Tom Keogh, presented Billy Maximus with his man of the match award. Speaking to Clare FM, Tom stated “Billy was outstanding today. Its faster he is getting. He broke his own PB for a 20 meter sprint there in the second half when a bit of a skirmish broke out!”

The buzzers next game will be away to Clarecastle on the June bank holiday weekend.
