Intermediates - Championship Preview

Our intermediates begin their championship campaign this Sunday against Whitegate. In arguably the most difficult championship in Clare, notoriously hard to win, the Bridge will be hoping to give a good account of themselves. With 2 groups of 5, the table toppers go straight to the semi finals whilst the 2nd and third palced teams go to the quarter finals, 4th place is safe from relegation and 5th placed teams face a relegation playoff.

The team is managed this year by Adrian Chaplin and he is ably assisted by Sean Chaplin and Mike O'Halloran as coaches/selectors. Adrian Hogan manages the Stats whilst Sean Flynn is the teams kitman. Adrian Chaplin was part of the minor management team which brought success to the club last year after a long number of years trying and indeed a lot of those minor players feature amongst the intermediate panel. He was also involved with the senior team for the last number of years. Former All ireland Winner Mike O'Halloran and former senior coach Sean Chaplin will add huge experince also to the management team.
There are some heavy hitters in the Premier Intermediate championship and all of the teams except the Bridge are the clubs first team. See Groups below for the teams involved.

The Bridge will open their campaign against Whitegate at 1pm on Sunday in Bodyke. They will play Parteen Meelick on Friday the 7th August in Shannon at 7pm. In the 3rd round they will play Tubber in Clooney on Saturday August 22nd at 6pm.  In the 4th round they will play Corofin in Gurteen at 1pm on Sunday 6th September.

Club Chairman Syl O'Conor said;

'...Our intermediate team is one of the most important teams in our club, it is where we will be seeing the future stars who have only just come of age to feature in adult hurling, they will get an oppurtunity here to mix with some of our former senior players who have a lot still to offer by way of experience and on the field, this is an invaluable apprenticeship for these young lads and they will be doing so ina ferrocious championship as we all know it is very hard to win it, best of luck to the team we are all behind them...'
