What a day of hurling for our Sixmilebridge U11s as they headed to Athenry GAA Club for their annual U11 Hurling Festival, with eight teams from all over Ireland competing.

First up were Kilcormac/Killoughey from Offaly. The boys had to dig deep in a tough opening game, but showed great character to eventually come out on top against a very good Offaly team .

Next came Naas from Kildare in a really fast and skillful  contest. It was extremely close in the first half, but Sixmilebridge pulled away in the second half to secure another fantastic win.

That set up a winner-takes-all clash against Michael Cusacks from Galway. What followed was a titanic battle between two excellent teams, with our lads showing tremendous determination to get over the line and book their place in the final.

The final saw Sixmilebridge take on the hosts, Athenry. It was another brilliant contest, with very little separating the teams in the first half. However, Athenry pulled away in the second half to deservedly take the title. Congratulations to Athenry, worthy winners on the day. 👏

A huge amount of credit must go to our own Sixmilebridge team. The boys played nearly 100 minutes of hurling against some of the top U11 teams from around Ireland and can be incredibly proud of their performance, effort and attitude throughout the day. 💙💛

And what better way to finish off a long day than a well-deserved Supermac’s stop at Galway Plaza on the way home! 🍔🍟 A massive thank you to Sixmilebridge Minor Club for treating the boys.

A very special thank you also to Athenry GAA Club for hosting such a fantastic festival. The facilities, organisation and overall setup were brilliant, and the way all the coaches and parents were looked after throughout the day was hugely appreciated.

Well done to all eight teams who took part and contributed to a brilliant day of hurling. ☘️
