On Sunday, our Under-11 hurlers travelled to Sarsfields in Cork to take part in the annual Tim ‘Birdie’ Hayes Tournament.

The four-team lineup consisted of Sixmilebridge, Sarsfields, Érins Own and Monaleen. Each team played one another in the group stages, with our lads finishing top of the group after a one-point victory over the hosts, Sarsfields, along with two very close wins over Érins Own and Monaleen.

The boys put in a massive effort throughout the group stages, battling hard in every game and showing great determination to finish at the top and book their place in the Cup Final against Sarsfields.

The final proved to be another close contest, particularly in the first half, with both teams giving it everything. Sarsfields pulled away in the second half to become deserving winners of the tournament. Our Sixmilebridge lads, however, never gave up and fought right to the very end. After almost two hours of hurling, they were very unlucky to finish as runners-up.

A brilliant day’s hurling was had by all 26 players who travelled, and the day was about much more than the hurling. Travelling together by bus made for some great memories, plenty of laughs and, of course, some great songs along the way! 🎶🚌. Stopped off for Supermacs on the way home which was kindly covered by the minor club.

A huge well done to all the boys for their effort, commitment and sportsmanship throughout the day. They represented Sixmilebridge brilliantly and should be very proud of their performance. 👏🟡🔵

Congratulations to Sarsfields on a well-deserved tournament victory, and a big thank you to our hosts for a fantastic day’s hurling.

Maith sibh, lads! 🙌🏼👏🏻
