On Wednesday evening last, the Sixmilebridge Juniors played a challenge match against Purdue university from Indiana, USA. The American team are currently touring Ireland and are here for the St. Patrick’s Day festivities.

They were led by former ‘Bridge junior hurler Matt Schwertfeger who soldiered with the ‘Bridge a few years back before moving back to the States. In fact Matt’s Dad was a regular at ‘Bridge junior games during that time before he sadly passed away.

A female member of the group took the opportunity to train with the ‘Bridge minor Camogie team also on the night. The Americans were missing a few though, apparently Gillys bar the night before had something to do with it!

A good evenings Hurling was had and Mikey Corbett’s men were glad of the run out a couple of weeks before they start their league campaign.

There is already talk of a return fixture Stateside with rumours that coaches Alan Whyte and Punchy are dangling this carrot in front of players at training to try and boost performances.

All in all it was great to catch up with some old faces and promote the game whilst also getting a run out for the whole squad.
