Sixmilebridge 3-11 Kilmaley 2-12
Junior B League Round 6 @ O'Garney Park
The junior B's made it three out of three for the clubs adults teams this weekend, with a hard fought but deserved victory over a good Kilmaley side this evening. Team management again utilised the opportunity to try out a few players in new positions as a number of players were absent due to holidays, work and injury.
In a low scoring first half the visitors were ahead by a point 2-6 to 2-5. It was tit for tat in the early exchanges before the visitors edged ahead by 0-4 to 0-1. The 'Bridge full forward line combined brilliantly for the opening 'Bridge goal with a Jake Dineen sideline cut caught by James O'Neill who offloaded to Jamie Lyons to dispatch the sliotar past the goalie. However, the visitors bounced back with a purple patch as they hit an excellent 1-2 without reply to go five ahead and facing for the turnover they were four to the good. On the stroke of half time Dineen showed great awareness to follow up the rebound to kick the sliotar home after his initial shot was saved and leave a point in it at the interval.
The home side started to get on top on the resumption and despite firing a number of wides they eventually took back the lead again thanks to two excellent Mikey O'Halloran efforts. Kimaley responded with a good score before a third goal this time from Charlie Carmody put the 'Bridge further ahead facing the final quarter. However, a number of missed chances ensured a nervy finish as Kilmaley clawed back the lead with the 'Bridge defensive unit getting through some great work. Crucially, the home side dug deep and deservedly closed out the game and picked up another two points.
The 'Bridge face another must win game in a couple of weeks time against The Banner from Ennis with a place in the league semi finals at stake.
