A blustery Charleville was the latest stop on the Sixmilebridge U10s 2019 itinerary where the host club were holding their annual tournament. Teams at the event included Glen Rovers, Newtownshandrum, Kilmallock, Cashel, Iniscarra as well as the host club. The 'Bridge squad was severely depleted with the Fleadh Ceoil in Ennis coming out of left field to claim the loyalties of many of our players on the day.
Sixmilebridge started their Group B campaign slowly with a game against Kilmallock. 5 points adrift at half time, the boys really powered into the second half and came out on top at the final whistle. The second game against Newtownshandrum was tough with the Cork club eventually claiming a comprehensive victory. Going into the final Group game against Charleville White, the boys knew a win would see them qualify for the semi-final. They dominated the game and ran out comfortable winners in the end.
The semi-final saw them pitted against the winners of the Group A - Charleville Red. Another massive effort by the Bridge boys saw them right in the mix going into the second half. They tired towards the end with the host club sealing the victory with a couple of late goals. Newtownshandrum went on to win the tournament.
Many thanks to Charleville for inviting us - it was a very enjoyable morning of hurling with the boys and coaches learning a lot. Our players also got the chance to warm up in Charlevilles indoor hurling astro pitch - a great asset for their club and we look forward to having a similar facility of our own in the near future.
The U10s will round off a busy June next Saturday morning (29th) when they host a Go-Games blitz with St Josephs, clooney Quin and Newmarket in attendance.
