Under 16 A Championship Round 2.
Match Report.
Sixmilebridge 2-21 Eire Óg 0-11.
Sixmilebridge under 16’s travelled to Ennis last Sunday morning to take on Eire Óg in this Round 2 Under 16 A clash. The ‘Townies were quick off the mark when Darragh Stack won possession from the throw in sending Oran Cahill through to score the first of two points in as many minutes. There was no sense of panic from the ‘Bridge however with Adam Murray levelling matters on 10 minutes with a well worked point after turning his marker. At this stage the ‘Bridge were getting on top with the back line in particular dominating matters coupled with the forwards, whilst scoring also getting their fair share of wides. The pivotal moment of the half came with 5 minutes left when after good pressure tackling from Adam Murray and Seamus O Connell, David Kennedy slipped a pass into Dara Casey whose shot at goal was hooked but it still had enough to roll into the back of the Eire Óg goal. Colin Kelly finished the scoring for the ‘Bridge with a well taken free to leave them six ahead at the break on a score line Sixmilebridge 1-8 Eire Óg 0-5.
Again the ‘Townies were sharpest at the throw in with Liam Kavanagh breaking free with the ball and hitting a lovely long range effort over the bar. Just as in the first half the ‘Bridge regained control with the back line conceding just one point from play for the remainder of the half such was their dominance although they were now aided by a breeze keeping the forwards busy at the other end. The game was as good as finished when David Kennedy struck for the second ‘Bridge goal 15 minutes in with Seamus O Connell following up with two points of his own a minute later. The ‘Bridge management then made several changes all over the field with very little changing as the fresh legs were just as determined giving a good view of how strong their bench was. With heavy rain now falling Eire Óg’s challenge faded as the ‘Bridge ran out winners on a score line 2-21 to 0-11.
For Eire Óg, Cuan O Claisne played excellent at wing back considering the pressure he was under throughout. Oran Cahill was also first class at half forward given the strength of the ‘Bridge backline.
For Sixmilebridge, Evan O Callaghan and Michael Carey were very impressive in full and wing back with Colm Flynn showing his usual fight in midfield.
