U16 Academy Group game
Played 12th Sep. 2019 at Gurteen
Sixmilebridge 6-08
St. Josephs Doora Barefield 1-14
The U16 Academy team played their Rd. 2 Group game in Gurteen in good conditions on Thursday 12th September. Games between these sides are normally very close but that did not prove to be the case in this instance. Led by Captain Jack Hughes, the ‘Bridge from the outset proved to be far too strong for this Barefield team. After 10 minutes the ‘Bridge were up 3-04 to 0-03 with the goals coming from Lee Mulready (finished after Fionn Hayes had hit the cross bar), Seamus O’ Connell and Fionn Hayes (after good work by Conor Gilligan in the lead up).
The good start allowed the ‘Bridge to make several changes early on and indeed the contest was far more even as a result. There were further goals Adam Murray, Daniel Chaplin and Brendan Carey. The half time score was Sixmilebridge 6-07 to Barefields 1-06. The second half was a far closer affair and Fionn Hayes scored the ‘Bridges solitary point in the half from a free.
There were some good performances all over the pitch which gave management a few things to think about, both in terms of development of some of the younger players and also in relation to lads pushing for spots on the U16A team. Captain Jack Hughes played superbly in a new role for him at corner back, he burst out of defence several times with relieving solo runs before clearing up the field. Others to impress were Conor Gilligan, Lee Mulready, Adam Murray, Fionn Hayes and Fiachra O’ Bhrian.
