The U12s renewed acquaintances with Newport in a set of challenge games yesterday morning. Like ourselves, the Tipperary club have a vibrant underage scene and with player numbers similar to our own, they have been regular visitors Garneyside in recent years.

Yesterday, we played 2 games - Sixmilebridge Blue (made up mainly of U12 players) played a 15 aside game against their Newport counterparts in O'Garney Park, while Sixmilebridge Yellow (predominantly u11 boys) played a 12 aside game in Cappa Lodge - both games throwing in at 11:30. As with last week we played 3 twenty minute thirds to maximize game time for all players.

Sixmilebridge Yellow made a good start and kept things tight in the first twenty minutes, with the stronger Newport boys pulling away as the game progressed. Impressive displays by captain Leon Duggan, Dougie Brew and Dylan Tobin throughout the game were the highlights from a Sixmilebridge perspective.

Sixmilebridge Blue were getting their first taste of 15 aside hurling in O'Garney Park and in an epic battle they edged out Newport with a final score 5-10 to 5-8.
Led by captain Jack O'Halloran there were notable displays by Donal O'Leary and Stephen Gavin.

The squad are already looking forward to the 'Trip to Tipp' for a return fixture in August.

Thanks to Mike Quinn who reffed the game in Cappa Lodge.
