A vibrant club is not just defined by its success on the field but also by what it does off the field and in the local area. Sixmilebridge GAA has always taken great pride in putting unity in our community and building for a future.
In the early 1970’s the ‘Bridge established one of the first underage hurling structures in Clare with a vision to building teams for the future. This lead the club to become the most successful juvenile club in Clare and our first Senior championship win in 1977 with 8 further wins by the time we hit the new millennium.
In the early 00’s the club had a vision to improve our playing facilities to ensure our teams were prepared as professionally as possible. This saw the extension of the Tommy Morey Memorial stand, conversion of the playing surface in O’Garney Park to a Sand based pitch and installation of match standard flood lighting ensuring teams could train all year round and providing a second county grounds to Clare GAA. Following this the club has gone on to win 6 more Senior titles.

Along the way a number of community projects have been completed including the running track around O’Garney park, and the gym at Cappa Lodge, astro turf and mini hurling wall which is the home of our Togging Out group.
In November 2016 the club had another vision for an indoor arena when they purchased a parcel of land adjacent to our training field. In June 2018 when the sod was first turned by Fr. Harry Bohan at the Cappa Lodge training complex to mark the beginning of the biggest sporting project in the province no one could have expected the strange times that lay ahead.

Since the launch phase 1, 2 and 3 are complete and we are now on the home straight:
Phase 1: Grounds work and steel structure
Phase 2: Roofing & Cladding
Phase 3: External plastering, block work and car park tarred
Phase 4: The last piece of the jigsaw - Installation of the indoor astro turf surface and completion of the external 60m hurling wall area and astro turf.
The one word that should stick out as you read this article is vision – the club, its people and its community are always looking to the future with the intention of leaving the club and surrounding area in a better place. While the future is uncertain at the moment one guarantee is, there will be a future and we as a club and community are building for it.

Open Day
This Saturday 17th October between 10am and 3pm there is an open day at our indoor arena for all to come and visit and see the work that has been completed to date. Social distancing will be in place and stewards will advise when you can enter the arena for a tour.
