The U12 Hurling season is rapidly drawing to a close with a final night penciled in for Friday 6th of November. Since the latest round of Covid-19 restrictions our sessions have been modified to include more agility training, target practice, wall ball work and strength training (well, tug of war mostly!).

To finish off the season, the U12s will be running a Wall Ball competition in the astro over the last couple of nights.

Competition format:

  • The Wall Ball Competition be divided into a set of 'mini-leagues' (Green, Red, White, Black and Purple) to ensure that players will be competing against players of similar ability (the groupings were picked based on how players performed at previous skills assessments).
  • There is a prize for each 'mini-league' winner.
  • Each 'mini-league' will have a Group stage, quarter final, semi-final and final.
  • In the Group stage players will be divided into groups of between 4 and 6 with each player playing all the other players in their Group (see groups below).
  • Players get 2 points for a win.
  • A head-to-head decider will be played if 2 players are level on points at the end of the Group stage,
  • The Quarter Final pairings will be decided by players position at the end of the Group Stage. For example the top player in Green Group A will play the bottom player in Green Group B, 2nd player in Green Group A will play 3rd player in Green Group B etc.

The format means each player will get to play at least 4 games (3 Group games and a Quarter Final).

Game Rules:

  • The first serve must be over the red line marked on the wall.
  • The ball must land within the marked area for a legal score
  • 2 Touch or 3 Touch rule applies (depending on the Group)
  • In the Group stage, the first player to 3 points wins a game
  • In the knockout stages, the first player to 5 points wins a game
  • Non attendance means forfeit of game. Our U12 hurlers have been attending training in large numbers all season so we hope to see this continue for the last few nights. We also plan some fun events on the final night so everyone should aim to be there for that.
