U6 Hurling for the new season begins tonight at 6PM in the Main Field. Current Senior hurling Captain Caimin Morey will CoOrdinate tonights session with Martin returning next week and we urge all players and parents to come a few minutes early for the first night so a few Admin items can be completed. The U8 training sessions have been a huge success to date with a very positive response from parents getting involved and we hope to see something similar tonight. The weather is promised fine so let the fun begin in our Field of Dreams - O Garney Park.
Club Shop
The Club shop stocking all the latest Club Fashion as well as togs, socks, hurleys, grips, helmets etc will be open from 6PM - 7:30PM this evening upstairs above the dressing rooms.
Hurley Sizing
Any parents considering buying new hurleys should take a quick look at this video on Hurley Sizing from Peter Casey at the recent Parent & Player night.
The urban myth of choosing a hurley that is up to your hip is so wide off the mark hawk eye wouldnt even pick it up. Instead Peter has given a few simple tips for measuring - Size and weight does matter but its a case of the smaller and lighter the better.
Simple Guide:
U6 - 20" Hurley
U8 - 22" Hurley
U10 - 24" Hurley
U12 - 26" Hurley
U12 - 28" Hurley
***If tall for your age go up 2 inches
Important to be able to flick the wrists with a short light hurley - hurling is all in the wrists as skillful hurlers like Joe Canning and our own Jamie Shanahan show in their game. As Cyril Farrell says theres nothing like "a nice wristy hurler".
