Parish League Final

Kilmurry 6-08
Finnachtas 1-09

Kilmurry are the 2022 Parish League Champions. After a tantalizing display under lights on Wednesday 16th March in front of a sizeable attendance. Conditions were perfect and the field was in great condition for the 10th and final match in the 2022 campaign.

Finnachtas were without a number of players due to the Croke Cup final the following day so Mikey Corbett arranged for a number of replacements to be drafted in.

Jamesie Hassett on sight of the programme for the night and and seeing the replacements dubbed them the United Nations of Hurling! Tom Sheehan, the scoreboard operator, was asked should the scoreboard names be changed prior to the game, but he indicated they were fine as they were - Smb and Visitors. Tom a staunch village man was firmly supporting the village team and dubbing Kilmurry from the edge of the parish as the visitors!

The game itself started at quite a pace and there was a bit of an edge with some players getting very acquainted with each other. Ultimately however the firepower and youth that Kilmurry possessed won the day out in the end. The Agnews, Cathaoir and Tiernan and Seadna Morey contributed 5-4 between them.

As the goals racked up for Kilmurry what initially was a hill for Finnachtas very quickly became a mountain. Despite the best efforts of David O' Connor who contributed 0-08 for Finnachtas they just could not match the firepower and finishing of the Kilmurry side. A late introduction, Paul Madden scored a goal for the ages in the closing minutes but alas it made no difference.

On the night, best for Finnachtas were David O' Connor, Ronan Tuohy, Paul Fitzpatrick and Danny Morey. On the Kilmurry side, Cathaoir and Tiernan Agnew as well as Seadna Morey, Sean Macnamara and the Careys Brian and Christy stood out.

The Mikey Sheedy perpetual cup was presented to winning Captain Brian Carey by Declan Sheedy and his family. Declan spoke about how proud he was to be presnting the cup to a fellow Kilmurry man and how your neighbours and the parish are everything.

Well done to everyone who took part including the U9s who did very well in the warm-up game. Overall an enjoyable campaign with 10 games, what better way to prepare for Team pre-season!

Well done to winning manager Jamesie Hassett and Captain Brian Carey.
