The Duck & Doc show

Round 1 of the Parish League took place in the Arena on Sunday evening and there were some fantastic games and battles between all the participants. The age range amongst players went from 18 to 50, but in the new format, all payers were catered for.

On the scoring charts front it was the Duck & Doc show as they amassed a huge 18 goals between them, Doc with 10 for the Mountain and Duck with 8 for the Village.

Village 21 v Cappa 18 (Junior A & Junior C)
Up first was the meeting of Cappa and the Village. A combined game of Junior As and Cs over 3 periods was played to accommodate the numbers present for this game. At the end of the first period, there was only 2 goals between the teams with the Village ahead. At the end of the second period the deficit was reduced to 1 goal but at the final whistle the Village had managed to stay ahead and stretch the lead out to 3 goals.

Captain Donald Duck Devanney led the charge for th eVillage with a battling display and a return of no less than 8 goals! Danni Rezanov and young Rob Stafford also impressed on the scoring front and there were good displays also from Brian Murphy and Conor Murphy. For Cappa Paul Fitzpatrick led by example with 4 goals from the backs and was aided by Dara Toomey who also scored 4 goals. Cian Gleeson and Dara Macnamara also performing well.

Kilmurry (18) v Mountain (14) (Junior A)
This Kilmurry team on paper certainly look like favourites for the Parish league and their Junior A side lived up to the tag in the second game of the evening. Brendan Brick Carey and Conor Gilligan managing a massive 5 goals each, with the O' Callgahan brothers racking up another 5 between them. Kilmurry were 2 ahead at the break and stretched that out to 4 by the final whistle. The Mountain tried hard and one man in particular really led the charge with a massive haul of 10 gioals, David Doc O' Conor. However the young Kilmurry side proved to be that bit better at the final whistle. Good for Kilmurry were Gilligan and Carey as well as Paddy Reilly and Niall Liddane. Good for the Mountain were Doc, Danny Dunne and Don Whitty.

Mountain (16) v Kilmurry (12) (Junior C)
A good battle again in this game which saw the Mountain have a nice cushion o a six goal lead at half time from where they were not hauled in and saw out the game as winners by a 4 goal margin. Good for the Mountain were Brian Glynn with 4 goals and Oisin Casey with another 4 and Brian O' Neill, the Toggin Out coordinator with 3. Kilmurry had good performances from Brendan Cary and young Callum Toomey returning from injury also.

It was great to see some returning players for various reasons as well as some Parish League debutants, both young and old who have come up through our underage ranks or who are still hurling with the Togging Out group. A wonderful example of the pathways available for all players in the club at the moment.! Conor Morey (cruciate), Danny Morey (shoulder injury) Errol Tuohy, Darragh Macnamara (retirement) and may more..

Round 2 will be next Sunday 6-8pm in the Arena and will see Cappa v Kilmurry, Mountain v Village, Jun A and Jun C.

Thanks to Adrian and Sinead Hogan for doing scorekeeper on the night, Aidan O' Conor and Adrian Hogan for supplying bibs and sliotars, Jim Hickey for refereeing and for the managers Sean Stack, PJ Fitzpatrick, Donald Devanney and the Kilmurry management of Brendan O' Callgahan and his backroom team of Declan Sheedy and Tom Keogh.
