Sixmilebridge Minor & Camogie Clubs, in association with Morey Movement, are delighted to announce the return of their Winters Athletic Development Programme for 2025. Following the great success of last year’s programme, this exciting initiative will restart on Monday, November 3rd, 2025.
Both clubs play a significant role in promoting health, wellbeing, and physical fitness among young people in the parish. The continuation of this programme reflects a shared commitment to further enhancing the athletic development of our youth.
In today’s sporting environment, particularly in GAA, strength, agility, and endurance are more critical than ever. Modern challenges, such as more sedentary lifestyles and early sport specialisation have led to noticeable differences in the physical attributes of teenagers compared to those 30 years ago.
This programme is designed to address those challenges and fill in the gaps in a young athlete’s physical development. The key aims of the programme are as follows: 1. Injury Prevention: Movement-based strength programmes help build a solid foundation in young athletes, reducing the risk of injuries. Developing proper movement patterns and strength early on can prevent long-term issues related to overuse or improper technique. 2. Enhanced Performance: Strength and conditioning improve overall athletic performance. By focusing on agility, coordination, and power, young athletes can reach their full potential, excelling in skills crucial to GAA, such as speed, balance, and reaction time. 3. Lifelong Fitness Habits: Engaging youth in structured physical development fosters positive, lifelong habits of fitness and well-being. This encourages them to stay active beyond their teenage years, promoting long-term physical and mental health. 4. Adaptation to Modern Sports Demands: As sports science evolves, it is crucial to equip young athletes with the latest training techniques. The competitive nature of modern GAA requires young players to be at their physical best to meet the demands of faster, more physical games. This programme will empower our young athletes to grow stronger, safer, and more skilled in their sporting careers.
About Morey Movement Morey Movement was founded by Chloe and Séadna Morey, with a state-of-the-art fitness facility now based in Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare. The company began humbly in 2019 after a discussion at a family event sparked the idea. Chloe and Séadna, both elite athletes, identified a gap in fitness services in the Sixmilebridge area and sought to provide a solution. As sportspeople who have competed at the highest level, Chloe and Séadna are ideal role models for the next generation of athletes coming through our clubs and growing up in our community. At the recent relaunch of the programme, Chloe Morey highlighted its importance: “Kids nowadays live in a far more sedentary lifestyle where running, movement and flexibility is not the norm and this has led to a weakness in their core strength, flexibility and in general a poor running technique. Irrespective of whether a child fulfils their dreams of playing in an All-Ireland Final or simply wants to be able to run a 5K to stay fit in later life, we will aim to ensure each child who leaves us after completing their programme will have received a foundation in athletic development which will benefit them in all physical activities.”
